History

The history of The Canyons goes back to the 1980s when Mac and Frances MacDonald first bought the rocky 3,200-acre property now known as the MacDonald Ranch. Developments in Las Vegas were starting to take root, and there was yet any demand for this remote, seemingly-impractical piece of land.  Twenty (20) years later, space in the lowlands became sparse and residential and commercial developments started to crawl beyond the valley. This was when the MacDonalds began to build their vision of peaceful, uniquely-elevated communities with the best views of the valley, starting with four (4) villages.

Eventually, Village IV (The Canyons) was sold to a builder and was finally constructed by veteran real estate developer Lennar. Homes range from 3,194ft2 – 3,669ft2 with 4-5 bedrooms each. There are four (4) different types of houses in the area: the Lyra, Gemini, Orion, and the Galileo Next Gen —  all representing Lennar’s advocacy for the multigenerational family.

Channel your inner Tiger Woods at this 18-hole, 3,811-yard, par 60 golf course just 1.4 miles north of The Canyons. The Desert Willow Golf Course features 9,500ft2 of putting green and has one of Henderson’s largest driving ranges. The area caters to different levels of players, from professionals to trainees, and you can book a lesson for as low as $50. Ride Through the Anthem East Trailhead

Enjoy the great Henderson outdoors by cycling or hiking through the 7-mile Anthem East Trail in the McCullough Range. The drive offers exciting views of the entire Las Vegas area and provides riders with the thrill of navigating its dirt roads. The jump-off point for the Anthem East Trail is at Anthem Hills Park, where you can also spend the day with your family playing soccer, roller hockey, volleyball, going to the children’s playground, or just relaxing with a nice afternoon picnic on the lush green grass.

Black Mountain Grill

Heritage Bark Park

The 5-acre Heritage Bark Park is Henderson’s largest dog park. If you’re looking for a special day out with your paw family, this one can quickly become a favorite. The area is complete with an agility course, dog runs, drinking stations, splash pad, and walking trails that are open from 6:00 am – 10:00 pm. The Bark Park is also a popular venue for dog shows, training, and other events. So if you’re fond of watching, meeting, and playing with dogs from all walks of life, this park is where you have to be.

Sunridge Park

Baseball afternoons with the family are the best at Sunridge Park. This 18-acre park features a well-maintained ball field, basketball court, tennis court, volleyball court, picnic area, playground, and multi-purpose grass areas for some random outdoor fun. It’s only 3 minutes away from The Canyons and is open from 6:00 am – 12:00 midnight.
